CHURCH ORGANIST JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Main Street United Methodist Church Organist / Accompanist for Chancel Choir
SKILLS NEEDED: A love of music and a strong desire to share your faith in Christ through music ministry.

Excellent organ skills—technical dexterity and accuracy; command of the instrument, skillful registrations; improvisatory skills a plus; knowledge of classical organ repertoire

A true church organist with service-playing experience; ability to play hymns with proficiency and sensitivity; a passion for music ministry

Excellent accompanying skills; excellent sight-reading skills; can play open score

Strong piano skills; ability to play a variety of different musical styles

Strong sense of commitment to the Church; A team player who works well with others—staff and lay-people; can be flexible

A degree in organ/music preferred but not required
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Organist for two Sunday Services at 8:30am and 10:55 am. Accompany the Chancel Choir at the 10:55 Service. Accompany the Chorale at the 8:30 Service when the 8:30 Chorale pianist is absent.
2. Accompany Chancel Choir Rehearsal weekly. Accompany Chorale Rehearsal when needed, generally 2-3 times annually.
3. Provide organ music and choir accompaniments and any extra rehearsal required for additional special services, concerts, choral workshops or other special events at the discretion of the Music Director or the pastor (see calendar of typical special services attached).
4. Prepare organ or piano accompaniments in advance of choir rehearsals when possible

The Technology Ministries Director of Main Street UMC is a part-time position that provides congregational, ministerial and staff support in the diverse areas of technology while developing a ministry team of volunteers to serve the technical needs of all of Main Street UMC’s ministries.

The Technology Ministries Director reports to the Senior Pastor and Business Manager.
Responsibilities include:

Services & Events:
• Responsible for the technical elements of all defined worship services – Primarily Sunday
Mornings
• Recruit, train, equip and schedule a Technology Ministry Volunteer Team in the use of
audio and video equipment to provide growth and enrichment for the church’s ministries
• Establish and maintain standards in audio and video ensuring a consistent worship
experience
• Provide or arrange for technical & production services for Sr. Pastor approved nonworship
events such as children’s productions, weddings, and funerals, etc.
• Maintain audio, video, lighting, and other technical elements for Sr. Pastor approved on
and off-campus events
• Enhance and support the responsibilities of all ministers and staff utilizing the resources
within the technology ministries area

Content & Production:
• Support ministers and service leaders through creation and production of content and any
materials needed for all services & events, including high quality livestreaming
• Work with the ministers and staff to coordinate the content of the worship services
• Produce and distribute content through various media for all services & events
• Ensure content meets church standards and requirements

Equipment & Network
• Maintain all personal computing devices owned by the church and in use by the staff in
relation to church and ministerial operations
• Manage and maintain multiple networks for staff and church members’ use, while
expanding and upgrading the network as needed
• Maintain all church-owned audio, video, computing, network, and classroom A/V
equipment
• Maintain an inventory of IT, sound, and media equipment
• Create user manuals for all equipment and update as needed

Other
• Maintain related technical skills through training and on-going education.
• Provide periodic user reports for systems access management activities

Office Environment
MSUMC’s ministerial, program, and administrative staff include Senior Pastor, Associate Pastor,
Minister of Visitation, Director of Youth and College Ministries, Director of Music Ministries,
Jubilee Music Director, Organist, Pianist and Youth Choir Director, Business Manager, two
Administrative Assistants, Nursery Supervisor, Wednesday’s Dinner Hostess, and two
custodians.
