Lanny has served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church for over 28 years. His focus in pastoral ministry is helping the church Connect with Christ, Connect with Each Other, and Connect with our Community. In his messages, sermons, and teaching, he focuses on helping people come to know, accept, and grow in the love of God in Jesus Christ. He particularly loves preaching and teaching God’s Word and showing how the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are relevant to our daily lives. He is a trained Spiritual Director, emphasizes Spiritual Formation in his ministry, and enjoys contemplative writers such as Teresa of Avila, Thomas Merton, Henri Nouwen, and Julian of Norwich. His life verse is “God is love”—1 John 4:8 (NRSV)
Lanny is married to his college sweetheart and soulmate and together, they have two grown sons, one a Chemist and the other an ordained United Methodist pastor. Lanny enjoys being in Creation, especially hiking, biking, and kayaking.
Education and Training: B.A. in Psychology from High Point University (Psi Chi Honor Society), M.Div. from Duke Divinity School, Certificate in Church Leadership and Ministry Management from the Royce and Jane Reynolds School of Church Leadership, Certificate in Spiritual Direction from The Centerquest School of Spiritual Direction.
